Sgt. Seth Sassaman, 27, teaches recruits of Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, bayonet techniques during martial arts training July 17, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. “Close combat still happens even today,” said Sassaman, a martial arts instructor and Riegelsville, Pa., native. “These moves will help save your life one day if you run out of rounds and have to fix bayonets.” The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program contributes to the physical, mental and character development of Marines and indoctrinates recruits into the warrior mindset of the Marine Corps.
