The ceremony marks the first time in more than a decade that 2nd Marine Division has conducted the competition and awarded the Annual Rifle Squad Combat Practice Competition Badge. Wellmon and his squad defeated two other squads in a four-day competition that tested the infantrymen both physically and mentally, with challenges including an endurance hike, combat fitness test, marksmanship, and defensive and offensive operations.
