Pfc. David Newkirk, of Newburgh, N.Y., makes a new friend during a combined patrol with the 2nd Brigade, 1st Iraqi National Police Division, in the Istaqlal Qada, Jan. 16. The patrol was assisting the Government of Iraq in continuing to secure this northeast Baghdad region. Newkirk serves as a reconnaissance scout with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment "Wolfhounds," 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team "Warrior," 25th Infantry Division, currently attached to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad.
