Rear Adm. Earl Gay, deputy chairman of the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee, meets U.S. President-elect Barack Obama in Washington Thursday, Jan. 8. AFIC carries on a tradition, which dates back more than 200 years, of honoring the new commander in chief and recognizing civilian control of the military. AFIC is a joint-service organization responsible for providing military ceremonial support to the 56th Presidential Inauguration, which will take place, Jan. 20.
