Rct. Vinliam Sengvanhpheng, a 20-year-old native of Auburn, N.H., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Sengvanhpheng is training with Platoon 1062, Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Aug. 29, 2014. “I joined the Marine Corps because of family. Family means everything to me,” said Sengvanhpheng, who is a 2013 graduate of Manchester Memorial High School in Manchester, N.H. “I like the structure the Marine Corps has to offer, and I believe it will give my family structure when I decide to have one of my own. I also like how the Marine Corps has one big new family to offer me.” Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Octavia Davis)
