    A C-130J-30 Super Hercules brings its distinctive six-propeller engines up to speed at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, Jan. 3. Compared to older C-130s, with design specifications dating back four decades, the J-model can climb and fly faster and higher and lands in shorter distances. This model adds 15 feet to the fuselage, creating more usable space in the cargo compartment. Major system improvements include: advanced two-pilot flight station with fully integrated digital avionics; color multifunctional liquid crystal and head-up displays; state-of-the-art navigation systems with dual-inertial navigation and global positioning; fully integrated defensive systems; low-power color radar; digital moving map display; digital auto pilot; and improved fuel, environmental and ice-protection systems. This aircraft is deployed from Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark.
