Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

Rct. Lucresa Joi’Ayanna Perry, Platoon 4023, November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, begins part of a combat fitness test June 16, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. For this portion of the CFT, recruits covered 300 yards while crawling, running with 30-pound ammunition cans and carrying a partner. The CFT consists of three scored events that help measure combat readiness. Perry, a 19-year-old from Fort Washington, Md., is scheduled to graduate July 3, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Octavia Davis)
