The Maj. Gen. William Pendleton Thompson Hill Award for the best mess hall in the Marine Corps is displayed June 9 before its presentation to the Marines and contractors with the Camp Kinser Mess Hall. The award was created in 1985 in honor of Maj. Gen. W.P.T. Hill, a Vinita, Oklahoma, native who served as Quartermaster General of the Marine Corps from 1944-1955. The award signifies the best mess hall in the Marine Corps based on areas such as operations, sanitation, taste and quality of food served. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. David N.
