    Spartans conduct PDS

Spc. Corey Borders, an infantryman assigned to the Physical Demands Study Detail, Company D “Dragons,” 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment “Battle Boars,” 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division carries 26 sand bags, two at a time, weighing exactly 35 pounds each, for 16.5 yards, and stacks them in a three-wall fighting position here at the Battle Boars’ motor pool, March 10. While doing this, Borders is wearing an Oxycon Mobile Device, which will record and wirelessly transmit many different factors dealing with his breathing. Essentially, this will allow researchers to calculate how hard Borders is working, and how much energy he is using as he works. The gathering of this data on this task is just one part of the PDS that the Dragons have been spearheading for the 2nd ABCT, in conjunction with U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, and the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine. The study’s purpose is to conduct a thorough evaluation, gathering as much scientific data as possible on what it takes to accomplish certain physically demanding tasks deemed inherent to four different combat military occupation specialties. The intent is to hopefully allow the Army to develop "gender neutral physical standards." These validated standards are intended to shape future recruiting and accessions of both males and females into the evaluated MOSs. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Richard Wrigley, 2nd ABCT, 3rd ID, Public Affairs NCO)
