U.S. paratroopers with the 173rd Airborne Brigade participate in a joint training exercise with Lithuanian Land Forces to call in air support to a joint terminal attack controller in a mock training exercise June 11 in Jonova, Lithuania. Forward observers are responsible for calling in the correct grid coordinates to locate enemy forces to the JTAC, to provide air support in attacking enemy forces on the ground. Approximately 600 paratroopers from the brigade are currently deployed to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland as part of an unscheduled land-forces exercise to demonstrate commitment to NATO obligations and sustain interoperability with allied forces.
