Sailors with the visit board search and seizure (VBSS) team, USS San Diego, detain a crew member with the fishing vessel Diane G. as part of a maritime interdiction operations (MIO) training exercise conducted during Certification Exercise (CERTEX) off the coast of Southern California, June 11, 2014. The 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Amphibious Squadron 5 team conduct CERTEX to hone mission-essential tasks, execute specified MEU and Amphibious Ready Group operations, and certify the foundation of a cohesive warfighting team for exercises and operations they may encounter in their upcoming deployment.
