Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel (center) and Romanian Defense Minister Mircea Dusa, visited MK Air Base Passenger Transit Center June 5. Maj. Gen. John R. O'Connor, the commanding general of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command (third from right), Col. Adrian Vasile (left) MK Air Base commander, Col. Rob Dotson, USAFE Senior Airfield Authority, Col. Chris Brookie (second from right), 21st TSC RSE OIC, and Lt. Col. Todd McCoy, commander of the 780th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron briefed Secretary Hagel on current operations at MK Air Base Passenger Transit Center. Hagel said MK Air Base will remain essential for the new phase of efforts in Afghanistan when the current mission concludes there at year’s end. “It also demonstrates the United States’ and Romania’s broader defense cooperation,” he added, “which is becoming even more important in the wake of Russia’s actions in Ukraine.”
