    Exercise Balikatan

The ceremony honored Philippine and U.S. soldiers interred at the Cabanatuan Prison Camp, some of whom were liberated by Philippine guerrillas and the U.S. Army’s 6th Ranger Battalion during a raid Jan. 30, 1945. Bautista was only five years old when he witnessed the raid take place in the prison camp. Balikatan is an annual bilateral training exercise between the Philippines and U.S. designed to foster cooperation and interoperability between the two nations’ armed forces through training as well as humanitarian aid and disaster relief projects.
