The image depicts what appears to be a mass casualty training exercise or disaster response drill, with U.S. Army personnel observing local emergency responders treating simulated victims on the ground. Two U.S. soldiers in ACU (Army Combat Uniform) are visible in the foreground, one with a name tape reading 'COFFIN', while civilian responders in yellow vests attend to people lying on a concrete surface. Media personnel with cameras are also present, suggesting this may be a joint military-civilian humanitarian assistance exercise.

Capt. Jason Collins, Army South Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion and Maj. Tracy Coffin, a medical planner from Army South's surgeon section, discuss the triage and casualty collection area during a field training exercise May 12. The scenario involved a school bus colliding with a van that carried hazardous materials on the busy Pan American Highway. The victims were actually 25 police cadets in training and the exercise tested El Salvadorian first-responders' response time, procedures and collaboration with other agencies. FA-HUM, a disaster preparedness and humanitarian two-week exercise takes place in El Salvador from May 5-16. The U.S. Southern Command-sponsored exercise includes command post and field exercises for not only El Salvador but about a dozen other countries from Central, North and South America. Army South is the executive agent.
