The 81st Regional Support Command held a memorial ceremony on May 7 at Fort Jackson, S.C., to honor nine World War I Soldiers who were killed in a train wreck at then-Camp Jackson on May 10, 1918. Those Soldiers were in the 321st Infantry Regiment of the 81st Infantry Division and were part of an advance party on the way to Camp Sevier in Greeneville, S.C., when the engine, the baggage car and two of the passenger cars likely slipped a switch and fell approximately 35 feet from the trestle as they were crossing it. Five died in the crash, two died while being pulled from the wreckage and two died at the hospital. Pictured here is the 81st RSC World War I Historical Color Guard.
