Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James and her spouse, Frank Beatty, meet with members of Forest City Military Housing May 6, 2014, at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. James and Beatty toured a home and spoke with residents about the quality of life and the advantages of living on base. James is the 23rd Secretary of the Air Force and was appointed to the position Dec. 20, 2013. She is responsible for the affairs of the Department of the Air Force, including organizing, training, equipping and providing for the welfare of its more than 690,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian Airmen and their families.
