A U.S. Army soldier in ACU (Army Combat Uniform) camouflage is engaged in conversation with a woman wearing a blue polo shirt, likely a local civilian or aid worker. The soldier appears to be gesturing expressively with his hand while speaking, and the woman is smiling and holding what appears to be a small package. The setting appears to be an indoor facility, possibly during a humanitarian assistance or civil affairs engagement.

Charmaine Maravillas, left, learns how to properly apply a tourniquet from U.S. Army Sgt. Jeremiah Berry May 2 during first responder training in Legazpi City, Albay province, Philippines. “This is a great opportunity for me to gain more knowledge in this field,” Maravillas said. The training is part of Exercise Balikatan, an annual bilateral training exercise and humanitarian assistance engagement between members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. armed forces. Maravillas is a local registered nurse, and Berry is a medical operations noncommissioned officer with 97th Civil Affairs Battalion. (Photo by U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Michael Thorn)
