Tree planting director for Casey Trees shows the budding of one of 100 trees planted at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) starting on Earth Day 2014, April 22. April and May are excellent months to plant new trees since there are plenty of rains to help them settle and take root. Planting later in the summer months stresses trees and limits their chance of success. Planting before the trees grow their leaves also helps the workers responsible for handling the trees that can be 300 to 400 pounds each without leaves. (U.S. Navy photo by Lt. Cmdr. Jim Remington)
