Cmdr. Brian Alexander, an ophthalmologist embarked aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge, performs eye surgery on a 3-year-old girl whose eyelids had been fused together since birth. Kearsarge is the primary platform supporting the Caribbean phase of Continuing Promise, an equal partnership mission between the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Brazil, Nicaragua, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
