A formation of female military personnel in desert camouflage uniforms (MARPAT pattern) are standing at attention holding rifles during what appears to be a drill or ceremony. The image is taken from a low angle against a partly cloudy sky, giving a dramatic perspective. The uniforms and equipment are consistent with United States Marine Corps recruit training.

Recruits of Platoon 4021, Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, march together during a close-order drill session April 24, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Close-order drill is nearly an everyday activity for recruits and helps them develop teamwork and unit cohesion. Papa Company is scheduled to graduate June 20, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Octavia Davis)
