The family of Lt. Michael P. Murphy (Father Daniel, Brother John, right, and Mother Maureen, left) unveil a granite block with brass plaque dedicated to the new Lt. Michael Murphy Combat Training Pool at Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN) July 9. Murphy, the father of Lt. Murphy, was the special guest of honor at the dedication ceremony along with the deceased Navy officer's mother and brother. The pool, which will be used by officer candidates and students at OTCN for swim qualifications, was dedicated and named for Murphy, a Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. Murphy was awarded the nation's highest military honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty, trying to call for help from an exposed location for his wounded four-man team against superior odds of between 30 to 40 enemy fighters. Also attending the dedication and unveiling was Rear Adm. Garry Bonelli, deputy commander, Naval Special Warfare Command (right) and the Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Rear Adm. Mark Boensel (left). (U.S. Navy photo by Scott A. Thornbloom/Released)
