Petty Officer 3rd class David E. Martinez stands in front of his class as part of the Combat Life Saver course is being taught aboard the Yuma Proving Grounds, Ariz. April 16, 2014. Martinez is the lead instructor for the course and is looking to not only better the Marines and sailors attending but to better himself as an instructor. The course consists of an open discussion format with occasional practical application test, for better understanding the techniques. Upon reaching the final days of the course the service members will be put through a practical application exam in which they will be challenged physically and mentally. “During this course people will learn about their selves and how to put other’s needs before their own,” said Martinez. “The training is going to make them tired and they will be pressured to perform under that added stress.”
