For the testing of the Networking On-the-Move command-and-control system afloat, an Assault Amphibious Vehicle was configured as a point-of-presence amphibious vehicle, or “POP-V.” Equipped with a wideband-Ku satellite communications system, the POP-V— shown approaching the beach at the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity at Camp Pendleton, Calif.—enables for the first time mission data and full-motion reconnaissance video from unmanned aerial vehicles to be distributed via secure wireless local networks. The data flows to commanders and staff aboard another amphibious staff vehicle as both vehicles operate on the move on land or at sea.
