Petty Officer 2nd Class Marie E. Shirk fires on a small watercraft approaching the guided-missile destroyer USS Gonzalez after it ignored her warning to leave. Gonzalez is participating in the testing of the Citadel Protect '08 Antiterrorism ashore/afloat exercise. Citadel Protect '08 Antiterrorism ashore/afloat exercise gave the training team a chance to eliminate any gaps by achieving unity within the operational environment.
