Staff Sgt. James Austin recites a poem he wrote conveying what a sexual assault victim might say to her assailant during a Sexual Assault Awareness Month presentation April 1 at the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs in Madison, Wis. The event also introduced Falcon, a post-traumatic stress service dog assigned to the Wisconsin National Guard Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) office.
Falcon, a black Labrador Retriever, is a service dog as opposed to a therapy dog. Rather than providing long-term therapeutic interaction, Falcon's purpose is to assist with education and outreach to those recovering from PTS and sexual assault. The Madison, Wis. - based Custom Canines Service Dog Academy also participated in the event at the Department of Military Affairs. (Wisconsin National Guard photo by Vaughn R. Larson)
