Petty Officer 1st Class Lance S. Wyatt (left), an El Paso, Ark. native, receives the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device from Navy Capt. Rodney Gunning, an Elwood, Ind. native, and the commanding officer of 2nd Dental Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, during an award ceremony aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., April 2, 2014. Wyatt triaged, treated, and stabilized 32 urgent Afghan National Army, police and civilian casualties, saving numerous lives and significantly preserving combat power during the summer fighting season in Sangin District, Helmand province, Afghanistan, during his 2013 deployment.
