Before construction could begin on the bridge, Marines from Marine Wing Support Squadron 374, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward) and equipment operators with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 leveled off a space between two levies with more than 30,000 cubic yards of dirt. The leveled area will serve as the foundation for the ramp and service road to the bridge.
