Lance Cpl. Eric J. Anderson, a 21-year-old from Estherville, Iowa, and a heavy equipment operator with Heavy Equipment Platoon, Engineer Support Company, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Naval Construction Regiment, helps guide in a driver during a demilitarization operation along the Euphrates River, Sept. 23, 2008. Marines of 9th ESB were cleaning up the area by removing the military presence at the site that once served as a military checkpoint. Concrete barriers were cleared away leaving the area more accessible to the residents here.
