Capt. Joseph Ledger, employment assistance program manager with Wisconsin Employment Resources Connection (WERC), speaks about how WERC surpassed 500 successful job placements during a March 19 Press conference at Joint Force Headquarters in Madison, Wis. Gov. Scott Walker and the heads of the state departments of Veterans Affairs, Military Affairs and Workforce Development were on hand to celebrate the event. When WERC was founded to address the service member unemployment crisis, unemployment among Wisconsin Army National Guard members was above 10 percent, and nearly 7 percent in the Wisconsin Air National Guard. Today, the unemployment rate in both the Wisconsin Army and Air National Guard is estimated at 5.1 percent, below the state unemployment average. (Wisconsin National Guard photo by Vaughn R. Larson)
