A soldier or military trainee in winter camouflage uniform is crouching in a defensive position near a waterfront, holding an assault rifle. The setting appears to be a cold-weather military exercise or training scenario, with snow visible on the surrounding hillsides and shoreline. The individual is using wooden planks and concrete blocks as partial cover.

Pfc. Austin Carr, a Fredericksburg, Va.,native and machine gunner with Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division provides security on the beach during an amphibious raid rehearsal March 17, 2014. Marines from 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division and Norwegian soldiers spent two days spent aboard the HNLS Rotterdam to train with Dutch sailors and marines for the amphibious raid during Cold Response 14, a multinational and multilateral training exercise featuring various types of military training including maritime, land and air operations. The location, above the Arctic Circle in northern Norway, provides a unique cold-weather environment for all forces involved to learn and develop procedures from an international contingent of allies.
