Capt. Brian "Bear" Koehr, professor of Navy science and commanding officer of the Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NROTC) Chicago Consortium, inspects midshipmen in the Atlantic Fleet Drill Hall at Recruit Training Command (RTC) here Aug. 13. The consortium was on RTC conducting their annual weeklong freshmen orientation. The 10-day orientation gives incoming NROTC freshman a glimpse of Navy life and the type of training they will go through at their perspective units and schools. The Chicago Consortium is made up of midshipmen from Northwestern University, University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology and Loyola University. Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), headquartered at Naval Station Great Lakes, oversees 98 percent of initial officer and enlisted accessions training for the Navy.
