USNS Carl Brashear launches into San Diego harbor during her christening and launch ceremony at General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego. The ship was named in honor of Master Chief Petty Officer Carl Brashear, one of the first blacks to qualify to serve as a master diver while on active duty.
