U.S. Army Pvt. Brandon F. Hayes, assigned to E Company, 5/158th General Support Aviation Battalion, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, engages targets with his M4 carbine Feb. 12, 2014, at the Oberdachstetten Range Complex. Hayes was conducting the blank-fire portion of the short-range marksmanship training being conducted by his unit to increase their proficiency. Blank-fire exercises give the soldier the repetition needed to successfully engage targets quickly and accurately, before moving on to the live-fire exercise. This type of marksmanship training allows soldiers to quickly and effectively engage targets at ranges less than 50 meters. The Oberdachstetten Range Complex is just one of more than a dozen firing range complexes operated by the Training Support Activity Europe to provide U.S. Army Europe soldiers with the ability to perform rigorous, realistic and relevant home-station training that enhances their combat readiness.
