Jan.24, 2014. 1st Marine Regiment was formed on 27 November 1913 as the 2nd Advance Base Regiment and was later re-designated to the current 1st Marine Regiment on 16 July 1916, beginning its illustrious history in 1914 with the Banana Wars continuing until this year as one of the last units to take part in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
