Hundreds of troops from at least a dozen countries attended a memorial ceremony Jan. 12 in a German aircraft hangar for Sgt. 1st Class William K. Lacey. The 38-year-old soldier perished Jan. 4 during an assault on his compound in southern Afghanistan. His death marked the first combat fatality of 2014.
