U.S. Army Spc. Dustin Ledford, squeezes the stuffed giraffe his pregnant wife sent him during a moment to himself at Forward Operating Base Tagab, Oct. 17, 2013. The giraffe plays an audio recording of his unborn child’s heartbeat. Ledford says the giraffe has been a big part of his motivation during this deployment and has helped keep him close to his family. Ledford hails from Clemson, S.C., and serves as an infantryman with 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment. 2nd Bn. is part of 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Task Force Patriot.
