John Byrd on his new appointment to assistant adjutant general of North Carolina during Byrd’s promotion ceremony at the N.C. National Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 24. As a fourth generation Guardsman, Byrd joined the North Carolina National Guard in 1981 as an infantry soldier. He has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and has successfully commanded at all levels from platoon to corps level. Lusk administered the oath at the ceremony.
