Rct. Kevin Poterfield and Rct. Patrick Pysarchyk, both with Platoon 2102, Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, make the silhouette-figured targets during combat marksmanship training Nov. 14, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits created modified silhouette targets with three scoring areas that designate the three lethal areas the head, chest and pelvis. Poterfield, an 18-year-old native of Valdosta, Ga., and Pysarchyk, an 18-year-old native of Lake Helen, Fla., are scheduled to graduate Dec. 6, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
