Marine Corps Lt. Col. Gaines Ward, center, accepts the Group IV Marine Corps Ground Safety award, along with B.J. Penn, left, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead, and Lt. Gen. Richard Kramlichon, on behalf of the deployed Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269 at the 2008 Safety Excellence Awards at the Navy Memorial and Naval Heritage Center Theater. Ward also accepted the Active Duty Marine Corps Aviation Safety award on behalf of the squadron. The Safety Excellence Awards recognize commands who have exhibited an exceptional dedication to maintaining safe practices and reducing workplace and recreational mishaps.
