Sgt. Paul Gallo, a Toms River, N.J., native, and air defense battle management system operator with Battery C, 5th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, evades the opposing team in a game of football during the 17th Fires Brigade Turkey Bowl at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., Nov. 26. The event is not just a Thanksgiving tradition, but a way for soldiers to connect during the holiday, Gallo said. "A lot of soldiers don't have family around here, so it gives them a good way of having fun with other people during the holiday," he said. While Gallo is used to working with his team members, football provides them with a cohesion-building opportunity. "You're on the same team with a different look at what it means to be a team member. You want to win, so you improve your game together," he said. (U.S. Army photo by Spc. Nathan Goodall, 17th Fires Brigade Public Affairs)
