Members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, U.S. service members and medical personnel from Makati Medical Center transport an injured person from a KC-130J Super Hercules Nov. 18 at Villamor Air Base. Since Typhoon Haiyan made landfall, militaries and volunteers from across the world have been assisting the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Government of the Philippines evacuate people looking to depart the disaster area. The role of U.S. military forces during any foreign humanitarian assistance event is to rapidly respond with support to help mitigate human suffering and prevent further loss of life and mitigate greater property damage. The Navy-Marine Corps team has a successful history of working with international relief organizations and host nations to respond to those people affected by natural disasters. The U.S. service members are assigned to 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in support of Joint Task Force 505.
