Staff Sgt. Michael Darling, and Capt. Michael Gary, both from the 11th Civil Support Team – Weapons of Mass Destruction, use scanners to create a safe zone during an exercise as part of Maine’s Vigilant Guard ’14. The 11th CST joined forces with the 21st CST from New Jersey to identify and clear two suspicious shipping containers at the Port of Portland on Thursday, Nov. 7. The Teams worked in coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard and Portland Fire Department to get to the site. The scenario in Portland is one of the last drills during Vigilant Guard, a statewide test of communications and response techniques during large-scale emergency situations.
