Feds shut down massive new cross-border drug tunnel south of San Diego [Image 6 of 6]
A highly-sophisticated smuggling tunnel was shut down Wednesday night by federal authorities. The passageway, linking warehouses in San Diego’s Otay Mesa industrial park and Tijuana, Mexico, is equipped with electricity, ventilation and a rail system. In related enforcement actions, San Diego Tunnel Task Force agents and local authorities seized more than 8 tons of marijuana and 325 pounds of cocaine, marking the first time cocaine has been recovered in connection with a local drug tunnel. In this photo is a HSI Special Response Team agent at the tunnel entrance.
