U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Evan Kees, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), cannoneer gunner and native of Cincinnati, fires an M327 120 mm Expeditionary Fire Support System during a fire support coordination exercise at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Sept. 28, 2013, as part of the PHIBRON/MEU Integration Training exercise. The fire support coordination exercise involved Marines aboard the USS Bataan (LHD 5) coordinating fire support with artillery, mortars and close-air support ashore. The MEU is scheduled to deploy in early 2014 to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group as a sea-based, expeditionary crisis response force capable of conducting amphibious missions across the full range of military operations.
