A new Marine of India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, rings the 1st Recruit Training Battalion bell during a motivational run Oct. 24, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Ringing the bell alerts the depot that the new Marines have completed training and are the next to graduate. The 2.3-mile run was the first chance most of the attending families and friends had to see their new Marine in more than 12 weeks. India Company is scheduled to graduate Oct. 25, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
