Sgt. Nicholas Mills, a primary marksmanship instructor with Weapons and Field Training Battalion, teaches recruits of Platoon 2088, Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, shooting techniques during marksmanship training Oct. 2, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Mills, a 24-year-old native of Jacksonville, Fla., trained recruits for five days on the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship, firing positions and rifle range commands in preparation for firing live rounds the following week. The Marine Corps holds the longest basic marksmanship training for recruits of any United States military service. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate Nov. 15, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Pfc. Vaniah Temple)
