San Diego artist Elizabeth Washburn, the founder of Combat Arts San Diego, takes in one of the paintings created by a group of Marines in one of her programs that is being featured in an exhibit at the Southwestern University art gallery Sept. 14, 2013. Combat Arts San Diego is a nonprofit organization that provides visual arts classes to active and inactive duty veterans who have served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and was founded on the principle that making art is inherently therapeutic.
