Staff Sgt. Eric Dessart currently serves as a Marine Corps drill instructor with Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. Dessart joined the Marine Corps in September 2003 and became a drill instructor in December 2012. Dessart is a native of Fox Lake, Ill. "[I became a drill instructor] to give back to the Marine Corps what they gave me," said Dessart. “I felt like I had a lot to give to upcoming Marines.” About 600 Marine Corps drill instructors shape the approximately 20,000 recruits who come to Parris Island annually into basic United States Marines.
