USNS Spearhead (JHSV 1) conducted high-speed trials, reaching speeds around 40 knots, off the coast of Virginia, Aug 20. Adm. Bill Gortney, commander U.S. Fleet Forces was aboard for the trial and was on the first helicopter to make a regularly scheduled passenger landing on the ship since passing its initial certification. Owned and operated by Military Sealift Command, Spearhead is the Navy's first-ever joint high-speed vessel and was delivered to the Navy in December 2012.
