    Approximately 300 U.S. Marines and Sailors with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force - Peru are currently deployed aboard the USS SOMERSET (LPD 25) to conduct humanitarian assistance and disaster relief training with Peruvian naval forces. The purpose of this deployment is to strengthen the relationship and enhance interoperability between the two nation's forces in the event of a natural disaster or humanitarian crisis in the region. This event is the latest in a long history of HA/DR engagements and cooperation between the U.S. and Peru.
